Lighting Design for Red Bull Symphonic with Loredana
German rap met classical symphonic music when Loredana performed her songs with a 60-piece orchestra at the Culture and Convention Centre Lucerne for Red Bull Symphonic. Musical Director Lillo Scrimali completely rearranged her music for the production.
Guest artists Bausa, Delara, Yll Limani, EAZ, Xen, Dawill, Danase, Jamal and Cinnay joined Loredana on stage. The recordings took place on 24 and 25 November 2021. The live album “Red Bull Symphonic Live” was released in 2023.
The principal design challenge was to incorporate the bright architecture of the KKL, with its white walls and the continuous first balcony behind the orchestra, into the stage design. For me, the task was not to conceal this architecture, but to make it part of the overall visual image. I integrated the venue’s existing RGB lighting along the balconies into the lighting design and complemented it with colour-coordinated backlight for the audience in the hall.
For the stage design, I chose transparent SGM LT Sticks. They allowed the existing architecture to retain its presence while providing a powerful visual response to the music and giving the stage a distinctive character. The SGM LT Sticks were controlled through a MadMapper system. Following preprogramming, every song was rendered at full concert length as a Depence animation.
For the show, I was responsible for the Production Design, Lighting Design and DoP work, as well as creating preproduction animations for every song. Together with my team, I also managed Preprogramming, Lighting Programming and Lighting Operating.
