Lighting design for the “Art on Ice” tour

The 2018 Art on Ice show is titled: DAS ORIGINAL. The theme is art—and not just the art on the ice. What is art? Who is art? Oliver Hoener, Artistic Director of Art on Ice, drew inspiration for this theme from the story of Wolfgang Beltracchi. For DAS ORIGINAL, works by Wolfgang Beltracchi serve as stage sets. Beltracchi himself also took the stage during the show.

Guest stars on stage for the 2018 edition included Emeli Sande and the Swiss band Pegasus. Art on Ice also welcomed Tina Guo and Laura Bretan as additional live acts.

Only Beltracchi’s paintings and artworks were used for the show’s design. The lighting design aimed to harmonize with the respective style of the artworks, blending the ice and stage with the visuals on the LED screens into a unified whole. COLD was responsible for the lighting design, oversaw the pre-programming, and provided a DoP and LX operating for the tour and TV recording. The show was fully pre-programmed in a 3D studio within two weeks.
