Lighting Design for the Moon & Stars Festival 2017

The 2017 Moon & Stars Festival transformed Locarno’s Piazza Grande into a major concert arena for nine days. Around 65,000 visitors experienced international artists including Sting, Imagine Dragons, Jamiroquai, Amy Macdonald and Macklemore alongside Swiss acts such as Gotthard, Züri West and Gölä.

Many concerts were broadcast live through digital channels. The Jamiroquai livestream alone reached more than 4.5 million users worldwide.

I was responsible for the overall Lighting Design of the festival setup and the technical advancing of the individual guest productions. This required integrating the different visual requirements of the artists into the shared infrastructure of the Piazza Grande.

Four PRG Ground Control Long Throw systems were used at a festival for the first time. A further 180 Color Kinetics ColorBlast fixtures integrated the distinctive wooden façade of the Piazza into its nighttime appearance.
