Lighting design for Moon & Stars Festival

For nine days, Locarno was transformed into a mecca for music fans: Over 65,000 visitors enjoyed the concerts on the Piazza Grande—featuring international acts like Amy Macdonald, Imagine Dragons, and Sting, as well as Swiss stars such as Gotthard, Züri West, and Gölä. The concert by music legend Zucchero was even sold out to the last seat. And the new festival concept also generated enthusiasm among the bands: Macklemore couldn’t stop raving about the beautiful scenery on the Piazza Grande. The Söhne Mannheims expressed their gratitude for the great atmosphere, and Andreas Bourani enjoyed his performance at sunset.

The Moon&Stars social media team captured the best moments on Facebook and Instagram, reaching over 2 million users. Many concerts were live-streamed on social media and online. During the live broadcast of Jamiroquai, the world suddenly became a global village: the stream reached over 4.5 million users around the globe.

COLD was responsible for the lighting design for the festival setup as well as the technical advancing process of the acts.

As a special feature, four new PRG Ground Control Long Throw systems were used at a festival for the first time. A total of 180 Color Kinetics Colorblast fixtures were used to illuminate the wooden facade.
