Lighting design for Energy Air in Thun
For Energy Air 2025, the stage system developed in 2023 had to be adapted to the more compact dimensions of the Stockhorn Arena in Thun. Its reduced height and width meant removing the outer sections on both sides and condensing the remaining design.
I adapted the lighting design to the new proportions without losing the stage’s visual identity. The fixture types remained unchanged from 2023; the decisive step was rearranging them within the narrower grid. This allowed the stage, video surfaces and catwalk to continue working as a coherent architecture while leaving enough space for the individual looks of the different artists. The lighting also had to work equally well inside the stadium and for the livestream cameras.
Six remote followspot positions on towers in the audience provided front light. Two further systems were mounted on the rear truss for backlight. All eight positions used Robe RoboSpot systems with Robe iForte LTX FS fixtures.
My team preprogrammed the show on one Depence and one Wysiwyg system and handled the lighting operation onsite. This preparation provided the foundation for delivering the many short performances precisely within the tightly timed show.
The eleventh edition of Energy Air brought more than 20,000 people to the sold-out Stockhorn Arena. The four-and-a-half-hour show was also broadcast on energy.ch, blue TV and blick.ch.
