Lighting Design for the Art on Ice 2017 Tour

Art on Ice 2017 brought James Morrison, Chaka Khan and the Zurich Chamber Orchestra together with international figure skaters. Special moments included the return of Sarah Meier and a performance by violinist Daniel Hope. The production was presented ten times in Zurich, Lausanne and Davos.

Six identically equipped Lighting Pods suspended freely above the ice formed the central elements of the Lighting Design. Their circular arrangement created the appearance of large chandeliers. On stage, eight trusses positioned in a fan shaped arrangement were complemented by fixtures mounted along the sides of the LED surfaces.

The stage design included around 600 square metres of LED surfaces, some of them mounted on moving elements. The effect lighting featured 48 PRG Icon Edge fixtures among other systems. This new product was used in a production for the first time worldwide.

For the tour, I was responsible for the Lighting Design and worked as DoP for the television recording. Together with my team, I managed Preprogramming, Lighting Programming and Lighting Operating. The complete show was preprogrammed in a 3D studio within two weeks.
