Lighting design for the “Art on Ice” tour

This year, British singer James Morrison and soul diva Chaka Khan performed live on the show. “Art on Ice” also surprised audiences once again with unexpected performances. The comeback of Sarah Meier and the virtuoso violinist Daniel Hope also created magical moments this year. “Art on Ice” toured with its 2017 production in Zurich, Lausanne, and Davos, presenting the show a total of ten times. Key elements of this year’s lighting design for the ice rink were six identically equipped pods suspended freely in the space, creating the effect of chandeliers. On stage, eight truss fingers positioned in a fan-shaped pattern were complemented by spotlights mounted on the sides of the LED panels. For the effect lighting in the stage area, 48 PRG Icon Edge units were used, among other fixtures—a completely new product that made its world debut here. The stage design consisted of approximately 600 square meters of LED surface area, some of which was mounted on movable platforms. COLD was responsible for the lighting design, oversaw the pre-programming, and provided a DoP and the operating services for the tour and TV recording. The show was fully pre-programmed in a 3D studio within two weeks.
